Prayer: Heavenly Father, I come to you in prayer, knowing that you are the one who heals. If it be your will, I ask that you take away sickness, infirmity and pain from me and restore me to health. I ask for your Holy Spirit to flow through me and for the destruction of Satan’s work in my life. I love and praise you, Father, and remember with gratitude the benefits you have given me throughout my life. I trust in your promise to forgive all my sins and heal my diseases, or to allow my suffering for your greater designs. Stay with me Lord, I trust in your strength and providence. Amen.
Verse: Are any among you suffering? They should pray. Are any cheerful? They should sing songs of praise. Are any among you sick? They should call for the elders of the church and have them pray over them, anointing them with oil in the name of the Lord. The prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise them up; and anyone who has committed sins will be forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The prayer of the righteous is powerful and effective. -Jm 5:13-16
Full Story
André Bessette was the humble doorman at a seminary, who became famous for over 10,000 healing miracles during his lifetime. Many of these have been well documented. In one of the early stories, a father of one of the students was passing the doorman, and revealed to Brother André that his wife was paralyzed. "Maybe she’s not as sick as you think", he replied. At that moment, miles away, the woman stepped out of bed entirely cured. Word began to spread, and more healings drew greater numbers. Brother André commonly would recommend confident, persevering prayer, along with applying oil from a lamp that had burned before a statue of St. Joseph. He would also suggest holding a medal of the saint, saying, “such things are acts of love and faith, of confidence and humility.” He became known as the "Miracle Man of Montreal", but he always made it clear that the miracles were from God, referring to himself as the "little dog of St. Joseph". Many came for a physical cure but left with spiritual healing instead, after being encouraged to go to confession and daily Mass. He was known to say, "God will have an eternity to console you for any sufferings here." The largest Basilica in Canada was built in his honor, appropriately named St. Joseph's Oratory. It attracts more than 2 million visitors each year. Side chapels are lined with crutches from those healed through prayers to the saint after his death in 1937.
