Details

Location: Zaragoza, Spain

Year: 1640

Prayer: Lord, I believe you can do anything. Help me to trust in your Almighty power as my creator, and creator of this whole world. Grant me stronger faith in you, especially during my doubts on what is possible in your plan for all of us. I give thanks that you breath life into me each day. Help me to walk with Jesus, who is the way, the truth, and the life, so that I may spend eternity together in union with you and all that love you. Amen.

Verse: Live by the Spirit, I say, and do not gratify the desires of the flesh. For what the flesh desires is opposed to the Spirit, and what the Spirit desires is opposed to the flesh; for these are opposed to each other, to prevent you from doing what you want. -Gal 5:16-17

Full Story

Miguel Juan Pellicer was ran over by a cart, severely injuring his leg. In great pain, he traveled to a site known as Our Lady of the Pillar in Zaragoza, Spain — historically believed to be the first Marian apparition in the 1st century A.D. It was here that he prayed for to the Blessed Mother for her healing intercession, but eventually his leg was amputated and buried in the hospital cemetery. He lived with his parents in Calanda, Spain, as an amputee for the next three years. Then, one night at around 11 p.m. on March 29, 1640, his mother, Maria, saw two feet hanging out from under his blanket! When she woke Miguel, he said he had been dreaming of anointing his leg with oil inside the chapel in Zaragoza. The newly restored leg was fully functional, although it had some discoloration around the knee, which soon faded. The gravity of such a miracle triggered an intense investigation that began immediately. Understandably, it was difficult to believe. The inquiries produced many written records, which are still preserved today, including a trial and sworn testimonies from 24 witnesses, among them the surgeons who had amputated Pellicer’s leg. The new leg had the same scars as the original cart injury, suggesting it was a restoration of his original appendage. When investigators called for the buried leg to be unearthed from the hospital cemetery, it was found to be missing.
