Prayer: Loving Father, Through the Sacred Heart of Your Son, Jesus, we see His boundless love aflame, along with the wounds caused by sin and ingratitude. Help us to respond to His call for love and repentance. Grant us the grace to see and admit the coldness and neglect that we have given Him, O Lord, and to understand how to properly move towards repairing our relationship with You. Sacred Heart of Jesus, who said, "Behold this Heart which has loved men so much," teach us to love You in return with all our hearts, minds, and souls. Amen.
Verse: "Yet even now," says the Lord, "return to Me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning; rend your hearts and not your clothing." (Joel 2:12-13)
Full Story
Sister Margaret Mary Alacoque received several visions of Jesus Christ in private revelations, which were scrutinized and later validated as genuine by her skeptical superiors. In one of the most notable visions, Jesus appeared to her, revealing His Sacred Heart. His heart, wounded and burning with fire, was surrounded by a crown of thorns, signifying the pain caused by humanity’s sins and ingratitude. He then expressed His sorrow: "Behold this Heart which has loved men so much, and spared nothing, even to consuming Itself, in order to show them Its love; and in return, I receive nothing but ingratitude from the greater number through the contempt, the irreverence, the sacrileges, and the coldness shown towards Me in this Sacrament of love." Margaret Mary’s superiors initially doubted the authenticity of her revelations, leading to a careful investigation. Her spiritual director, Father Claude de la Colombière, a respected Jesuit priest, played a crucial role in defending her. His theological insight and his own belief in the revelations helped spread the devotion beyond the convent walls, gaining attention from Church authorities. The devotion to Christ’s Sacred Heart grew rapidly in popularity worldwide, and continues today. It serves as a powerful reminder of the call for love and repentance.
