Full Story
On January 31, 1906, a violent earthquake struck the small island of Tumaco for 10 minutes. All inhabitants rushed to the church and begged Fr. Larrondo to lead a procession with the Blessed Sacrament. Fr. Larrondo agreed and began marching toward the beach. People weeped and cried out to God as they accompanied Fr. Larrondo. At the beach, Fr. Larrondo raised the Blessed Sacrament in front of the giant wave approaching the shore, and the wave hesitated, paused, and backed off. Fr. Larrondo and the surrounding people were overjoyed by what they had witnessed and started claiming “miracle, miracle”. The events quickly became known around the world.
