Full Story
A terrorist placed dynamite inside a flower pot, and detonated it in front of the 400-year-old Our Lady of Guadalupe image at the shrine. The explosion damaged the marble, but miraculously left the immediately adjacent image completely unharmed. Even the glass over the image was uncracked. A heavy crucifix was positioned between the bomb and the image of Our Lady, and has been preserved on display in remembrance of the event. Its bent appearance looks as if Jesus was protecting his mother's icon from the powerful blast.
