Prayer: Jesus, Through Your holy angels, may we be guided and protected as we journey through this life. Just as they ministered to You during Your Passion, may they also help us to bear our own crosses with acceptance and understanding. Strengthen us in our suffering, and help us grow in the hope of resurrection. Amen.
Verse: Then an angel from heaven appeared to him and gave him strength. In his anguish he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat became like great drops of blood falling down on the ground. —Luke 22:43-44
Full Story
Sister Mary Frances of the Five Wounds, born Anna Maria Gallo in 1715 in Naples, grew up caring for the poor and suffering. From a young age, she offered refuge to those in need and became known for her charity. At age 16, she entered the Franciscan order after refusing an arranged marriage. In her later years, when illness left her bedridden, several priests witnessed extraordinary events during Mass. On multiple occasions, pieces of the consecrated Host disappeared without explanation. It was believed that her guardian angel delivered the Eucharist to her. This phenomenon was consistently observed by priests celebrating the Mass. Throughout her life, Sister Mary Frances experienced mystical visions of Christ and received the stigmata, the wounds of Christ’s Passion. Numerous witnesses observed these signs, which she concealed with gloves. These mystical experiences often occurred during her meditations on the Passion of Christ, which intensified as she grew older. Her relics are kept at the Church of St. Mary Frances of the Five Wounds in Naples, where expectant mothers frequently come to pray for a safe and healthy delivery.
