Full Story
Sister Wilhelmina Lancaster, who formed of a new order of Benedictine nuns, died in 2019 at the age of 95. Four years later, when her coffin was to be moved, it was exhumed and found to have broken open at the top, inviting in dirt and moisture. Inside, the sisters did not find a skeleton as they expected, but the preserved body of their founder, neatly dressed in her black attire. She was initially covered in a layer of mold, according to the sisters. Jack Klein, issuer of her death certificate, confirms she was not embalmed and that the coffin was unprotected, and “can’t understand” the lack of decomposition. Word spread on social media about this potential “miracle of incorruptibility”, drawing large crowds. Remarkably, the visitors failed to experience any unpleasant odors, even with the nun's body on full open-air display. This case is under investigation by the diocese, with studies being performed on her body, garments, and the soil. Sister Wilhelmina was known for starting a new order of nuns dedicated to persevering traditions in the Church, such as wearing the full nun’s habit, attending Mass in Latin, and singing Gregorian chants.
